RIFLE SHOOTING.
PAEROA’S MINIATURE CLUB. SHOOT FOR R. WELLS’ TROPHY. One of the most successful night’s shooting yet held under the auspices of the Paeroa Defence Miniature Rifle Club took place at the Drill Hall on Wednesday evening, ivhen the handicap competition for the trophy generously donated by Mr R. Wells was fired. It is indeed pleasing to the committee of the club to note the great all-round improvement in the shooting since the commencement, barely three months ago, and especially amongst the junior members. One glance at the scores below will confirm this fact. The conditions were 10 shots and one compulsory sighter, with a limit, including the handicap, of 100. In each shoot off the handicap of each contestant was reduced to the difference of his previous score off the rifle and 100. No less than 14 members succeeded in reachiftg the limit, and it was not until there had been two shoots off that the winner was decided. M. Charlesworth, a junior member, was successful in withstanding all onslaughts right through to the final shoot off and winning the trophy, improving from 81 off the rifle in the original shoot to 95 in the final. D. Currie was a good second, just failing to cause a third shoot off by a small margin. During the evening Captain H. Simmonds registered another possible off the rifle, making the sixth possible to his credit for the season.
Next Wednesday a teams match will be arranged, and all members intending to take part are asked to hand in their names to the secretary in order that the teams may be arranged beforehand.
