THOMPSON’S TRACK.
THE MINISTER’S OPINION. ROAD NOT REQUIRED. The representations made to the Minister of Lands when in Te Aroha on May 21 were referred by him to the Minister of Public Works, who has replied through Mr C. E. Macmillan to the Piako County Council. The Minister stated that after carefully considering the position he was of the opinion that there was no need for a vehicular road across the range in this locality, particularly as there was a crossing a.. Ka.m.ai and another through Waihi. The widening of the road so as to provide for vehicular traffic would be a fairly expensive undertaking, and he was unable to agree to the provision of the necessary funds for that purpose. It was not considered that the work was suitable for unemployed.
