This set comprised 30 lessons in French, and was obtainable from the Education Department, Wellington. Appointment of Teacher. The Education Board notified that Miss E. J. Sutton had been instructed to attend the school as relieving assistant from August 1 during the absence of Miss F. S. Taylor. The headmaster reported. that the above teacher had duly taken up her duties. Visiting Committee’s Report. On behalf of the July visiting committee, consisting of Messrs Holes and Perston, Mi- Holes reported that repairs to the flagpole had not been put in hand ; in its present condition it was unsafe. Nothing had been done to the shed in the saddling paddock. It was a grave mistake to allow children to ride home on wet saddles. One lavatory was in a bad state of repair and leaking. Three sinks in the science room needed attention, there being evidently a blockage somewhere. Blinds on the western side of the building were in an unsatisfactory state and allowed the sun to strike the faces of the children, making them most uncomfortable.
The chairman explained that the committee had written to the Education Board at Auckland two months previously asking that repairs to the flagpole and saddling shed be authorised. No reply had been received.
It was decided to communicate With the board, calling attention to the committee’s previous letter on the subject and pointing out the urgency of the request. Mi- Perston was instructed to make the necessary repairs to the science room sinks and the faulty lavatory; also to make provision for an 8-foot length of hose to be used for flushing out floors from the tap. Arrangements for repairs to blinds were left in the hands of Mr Holes. Addition to Library. The Auckland Education Board advised in answer to the committee’s request for a grant towards the addition of two books on handicraft and nine on animal stories to the school library that application had been made to the Education Department for a subsidy,, and the committee would be advised when a reply had been received. Messrs Holes and Perston were complimented on their report. General. Accounts totalling £8 8s 4d were passed for payment. A dental clinic account for 5s was passed for payment. The renovations to the headmaster’s hoqse were passed as satisfactorily carried out, and payment in full was recommended to the Auckland Education Board. The Auckland Primary School Committees’ Association wrote stating that remits, to appear on the agenda paper, and to be inserted in next issue of the journal, must be in the hands of the secretary not later than August 20. The letter was received. Mr W. Power was granted further leave of absence. Messrs Lowry and Smith were appointed the visiting committee for August, to report at the next meeting.
