NGATEA HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The Ngatea District High School Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday evening, Mr W. McDuff presiding ovei' Messrs C. Vagg ; R. Rowlings, W. Wylde, C. S. Foster, E. C. Barriball, R. Cornthwaite, and W. Chappell (secretary). School Hours. The headmastei’ reported that he had investigated the question of closing the high school half an hour earlier and had found that it could be managed, but it was found that if this was done the other bus services would be inconvenienced. The Kerepee bus also transported children from the Turua school, and one serv’ea would have to be altered. As the days were getting longei’ it vas agreed that no action need be taken in That direction. Members criticised the complaints of parents as to the lateness in ui'iv■ing home of chi’dren as unjustified in most cases, and probably due to the children dawdling on the roads after having been delivered at the by-road corners. It was decided that no action be taken unless complaints in writing had been received. Gramophone Records. ; The headmaster reported that he had been advised that the fifteen gramophone records for the assistance in the teaching of the French lan> guage which had been ordered seme time ago, would arrive next week. . . i Resignation. Mr E. C. Barriball notified that as he was leaving the district he would have to resign from the committee. The chairman expressed the committee’s regret at losing the services of such a live member as Mr Barriball. Other members endorsed this, and the committee’s appreciation of his services was recorded in the minutes. In reply Mr Barriball said that what he had done he had done willingly for the sake of the children.
