The Bay of Plenty Hospital Board : forwarded a circular letter expressing the view that if those hospital boards interested in the hospital and nursing treatment of natives wore to put forward a combined effort some satisfactory measure of assistance might be ■ obtained from the Government. The channels of approach through the asi sociation and the Department of Health had been tried so often without avail that if any assistance was to be obtained the matter should be jtaken to Parliament direct. If the ■ board was favourable it was asked to i appoint a representative to a conferi ence which would be arranged. , The chairman said that the matter i had been thrashed out at every conI ference .for the last five or six years, i and the decisions had neon ineffective owing to there being insufficient push by the association. Heating Material. ; A Thames carrier who had been the successful tenderer for the (supply of firewood wrote drawing attention to the fact that a supply of firewood bed recently been delivered to the hospital by . some other person. The chairman explained that during the last few weeks there had been an adute coal shortage throughout the Dominion due to the earthquake interfering with supplies from the South Island, and it had happened that the supply at the hospital had run so low that something had to be done urgently to keep the furnace going during the night. Accordingly a stack: of wood ■which had been bought last year ■was brought in and used.
