FOOTBALL.

THAMES VALLEY V. WAIKATO. AT PAEROA NEXT SATURDAY. Saturday will see staged at Paeroa the inter-provincial match between Thames Valley and the pick of the Waikato. After the excellent performance the home team put up against Auckland on August 3, there should be little doubt that there will be a battle royal.. The Waikato players have some good Victories to their credit, although suffering defeat on August 3 at the hands of the premier \ Auckland team. There has only been one change made so far in the Thames Valley, team that defeated Auckland, Payne, Piako, taking the place of Page. Paeroa, in the forward line. The Waikato team is not as yet ' available, as it will not be picked until after the game against Hawke’s Bay to-day it JHamiltion. The visiting team will arrive in Paeroa on Saturday by the 2.44 p.m. train, and play will commence at three o’clock sharp. Directly after the match the visitors will be entertained to early dinner and leave on their return by the 5.35 train. Mr A. Smith, of Te Arolia, has been chosen to referee the game. NOTES. ' Our Hikutaia correspondent writes : The Hikutaia juniors could not muster a team to take part in the Williams : Cup fixture, and the seniors were only able to field a weak team in their Drysdale Cup match against East. It seems a great pity that the club fixtures could not be completed before entering upon the representative matches. In such a widely-scat-tered area as Hikutaia it is difficult, to keep the boys together. Some of the players are still suffering 'from ■ injuries received during\the early part of the season, some have left the district, while those remaining who were not fortunate enough to receive" representative honours are hopelessly out of training. ■ Primary Schools Trial. A trial match for the purpose«of selecting the Thames Valley Primary ( school to defend the ‘ Roller Mills Shield against all-comers at Cambridge during the first week in the August holidays, will be held at the Paeroa Domain on Saturday morning next.
