CATTLE STEALING.
THE SOMATA CASE. GAGE SENTENCED. Robert Gage, who pleaded guilty to cattle stealing at Komata at the Paeroa Police Court on July 17, was sentenced at the Supreme Court, Auckland- on Monday to nine months’ hard labour.
The judge in delivering judgment said that cattle-stealing was a very serious crime, and in view of accused’s record as handed in by the police and probation officer being none too good, he could not, even although Gage’s employer had expressed his willingness to take him back, admit prisoner to probation.
