Brief reference to the bobby calf industry was made by Mr J. E. Leeson, chairman, ip, the course of his address to suppliers at the annual meeting of the Morrinsville Dairy Company on Monday. Mi’ Leeson said that as a result of the industry £250,000 was brought into the country last year, and employment was found for 500 men. The price brought for for veal on the London market was only 5d per pound wholesale. The retail price vms considerably higher than this, as prime English veal made Is 6d per pound wholesale. It whs anticipated that there would be a further rise.,. The New Zealand product was bought by the chefs of the big hotels and served up'as the finest veal. The patrons did not know, it was New Zealand boby calves. (Laughter.) '' “We get them back, here, dope up? in bottles with the names of famous firms pasted outside as chicken and ham paste,” concluded’Mr Leeson, amidst laughter. The other day a Wellington man fell asleep on his verandah while reading the.paper. Unfortunately his pipe was in his mouth at the time and he got badly burned.
