PLAINS COUNTY.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. ROUTINE BUSINESS. The Hauraki Plains County Council held its monthly meeting at Ngatea yesterday, Cr. C. W. Harris presiding over Crs. W. McDuff, A. S. Fisher.. F. J. Mayn, J. A. Reid, W. Madgwick, and J. Motion. The clerk, Mr E. A. Mahoney, the engineer, Mr F. Basham, and the inspector, Mr W. White, were in atendance. Seats on Power Board. Cr. Madgwick spoke on the desirability of greater representation for the county on the Thames Valley Electric Power Board, and moved as follows “ That in view of the suggestion that the Hauraki Plains County was, entitled to more, representation on the Thames Valley Power Board, the board be requested to supply the council with a statement showing the approximate total amounts received by electricity sales during the last financial year from customers in each constituent district." —Carried. Pekapeka Culvert. The Hauraki United Drainage Board wrote asking the council to repair the culvert pipes under Pekapeka Road that had been damaged by the council’s grader. The matter was referred to the engineei- and riding member. Wharepoa Ferry Road. Mr C. A. Ansford wrote asking for permission to put a fence across the disused road leading to the old Wharepoa ferry. He would undertake to keep the- tail fescue grass eradicated. Cr. McDuff objected, as the cattle would undoubtedly cause damage to the Drainage Board’s two drains. The matter was left to the riding member to deal with Rafter consulting the Drainage Board. Kerepeehi Water-tables. On Cr. Fisher’s representations the engineer was instructed to have pipes put in the water-table at the Matai Street corner, Kerepeehi township. Trapping Shingle. Cr. Madgwick again brought up the matter of trapping shingle in McDonald’s stream, between Mangatarata and Kaihere. The chairman and engineer were authorised to inspect the I'cality and report. Pipiros Ferry. The council’s special committee on ferries recommended a new scale of charges for the Pipiroa feny. The chairman mentioned that there was a general reduction on that class of traffic which would benefit local settlers. The report was adopted.
