MEETING OF BOARD. DRAINS TAKEN OVER. The second meeting of the recently constituted T’rohia-Rotokohu Drainage Board was held yesterday in the County Chambers, Paeroa, Mr W. F. Johnstone, chairman, presiding over a full attendance, comprising Messrs F. Lewis, A. E. Surrey, H. Tnorp, V. Young, and W. F. North, secretary. Waihou Stop-bank. In further reply to tne board'. 5 : telegram of July 13 drawing attention to the alleged dangerous state c-f the stop-bank on the eastern side of the Waihou River protecting the Rotokohu drainage area, the Minister of Public Works advised that, as promised, the position had been looked into. He understood these stop-banks were built some years ago, and had now to be topped up to a small extent; also, a small banquette had to be placed on the landward side over the whole length in order to give added strength against floods. Two large Bucyrus drag-lines were to do this work. One had started, and the other would follow as sc on as it had finished the work, in hand below Ngahina. The finishing off of these stop-banks would be pushed on as fast as possible with the two big machines. Overdraft Authorised. The Under-Secretary, Department of Internal Affairs, advised that the Minister respo isible had authorised the board to borrow by way of overdraft £ll6 13s 4d. It was pointed out in the communication that the usual practice in dealing with applications of this nature was to authorise the local body concerned to borrow two-thirds of the estimated yield from the general «rates, this being £ll6 13s 4d in the present case. Valuation Roll. The Valuation Board wrote asking that as various amendments to ownership and valuation were necessary in the ratepayers’ list used by the board at the recent election, would the board advise whether it desired an official roll prepared. The secretary was instructed to ask what exactly the foregoing referred to, as the board already had the latest valuations. Drains to be Taken.
