PAEROA FIRE BRIGADE

LONG SERVICE PRESENTATIONS EVENING AT THE STATION. At the Paeroa Volunteer Fire Brigade’s fortnightly business meeting last evening the superintendent, Mr W. J. Moore, presented a 19 years’ service bar to deputy-Superintendent E. Moore and a 5 years’ service medal to Fireman C. Nield. Deputy E. Moore, in his brief remarks, said he felt gratified at the way the members had expressed their appreciation. Appreciation lightened somewhat the burden of duty. A man felt that service to his community should be done whether it drew forth applause or not. The fire service was not overburdened with applause, but firemen had the satisfaction of knowing that their brother firemen at least appreciated their service. Secretary Malcolm responded on behalf of Fireman Nield, who was unavoidably absent, and accepted the medal on his behalf. He thanked the brigade for the enthusiasm and appreciation they had accorded their fellow fireman.
