QUEEN CARNIVAL.

POSITION OF THE QUEENS. At noon to-day the Sports Queen was leading, followed by the Farmers’ Queen, with the Business Queen third. The clock dial records £925 17s. COMING EVENTS. FARMERS’ QUEEN. Monday, August s.—Pictures and Dance, Netherton Hall. Thursday, August B.—Dance and Euchre, Netherton. SPORTS QUEEN. Friday, August 9.—Plain and Fancy Dress Dance, Gaiety Theatre, Paeroa FARMERS’ QUEEN. DOULTON SANDWICH SET. The competition for estimating the length of ribbon in a bottle for the prize presented by Mrs A. J. Thorp was won by Mr B. E. Veale. The correct length was 4yds 2ft and sin. Mr Veale’s estimate was the nearest, being only Ilin out. SPORTS QUEEN. SATURDAY’S MARKET. The Sports Queen on Saturday added yet another day to her conquests. A Paddy’s Market, held from morning until evening, proved equally as successful as its predecessors, supplies being readily forthcoming, and in the end everything was disposed of. A merry band of nigger minstrels provided joyous mirth and livened the evening with song and witticisms. SOCIAL AT MAORI PAH. An outstanding event on Saturday night was the social held at the Maori Meetinghouse, Paeroa. There carefree jollification and joyful mood were the order of the evening. An auction was held, and the Maoris, with their traditional generosity, made it appear as though the articles for sale would never be disposed of, for time and again they were put up anew for fresh bidding. Dancing was enjoyed to the uttermost by the couples that took the. floor, filling the hall to comfortable capacity. As a result of the Maoris’ splendid effort and the long-to-be-rer unebered social, the Sports Queen will have a considerable number of votes added to her total.
