THE RAINFALL.

FIGURES FOR PAEROA. Last month 5.59 inches of rainfall were recorded in Paeroa, .11 more than in June. July last year was verywet, rain totalling 12.20 inches falling, with accompanying floods. The whole of the year so far has been drier— with 31.72 inches—than the corresponding period in 1928, when 40.87 inches were recorded. Rain last month fell on 22 days, with the 7th, showing 1.12, the worst day. From the Ist to the sth there was no rain, the wettest week being from the 22nd to the 28th, with 1.75 inches. The warmest day was the 16tb, with 56 degrees, sever, less than the warmest day in June, and the coldest was the 4th, with 41 degrees. Frost was recorded on the 3rd, 4th. sth, 6th, and 12th. The prevailing wind came from the north-west, on 12 days altogether, the. direction of the wind for the balance of the month being north on one day, north-east on four days, south-west on eight days, south-east on one day, east on one day, and west on four days. HAURAKI PLAINS FIGURES. GAUGING FOR JULY. Incredible as it may seem, the rain gauge at the Lands Drainage Department’s office, Kerepeehi records that last month was a comparatively dry one. The rainfall totalled 4.60 inches, and some rain was recorded on 17 days. July figures for the previfive years are as follows : 1928, 7.09 in, 17 days ; 1927, 6.29 inches, 22 days ; 1926, 6.35 inches, 12 days; 1925, 5.15 inches, 17 days ; and 1924, 1.87 inches, 13 days. The average for July in the last 17 years is 4.24 inches. The heaviest fall during last month was on the 7th, when .60 of an inch was recorded.

Falls of rain during July were recorded on 27 days at the Ngatea Dis trict High School, the total rain for the month being 4.66 inches.
