HAURAKI DRAINAGE.

PLAINS WEST BOARD. MONTHLY MEETING. The Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board held its monthly meeting at Ngatea on Thursday,, Mr C. W. Parfitt presiding over the following : Messrs. J. Motion, T. A. McClean, E. L. Walton (clerk), and E. Flavell (engineer). Mr H. McClean was granted leave of absence. Foreman’s Report. The foreman reported that work on the Pipiroa - Waitakaruru roadside drains had been held up by an excess of water. The work on the Island block was completed. Davidson’s outlet contract would be completed in a few days. The roadside drain from Davidson’s outlet to the new floodgate had been widened. Weeds had been dragged from all floodgates and they were now working well. A Rawerawe Complaint. Mr Parry H. Sutton, Papatoetoe, wrote advising that he had learned of the board’s drainage proposals from his neighbour, Mr Miles, and quite agreed with him that in all probability both properties would be very seriously flooded in the near future. When this happened he, along with Mr Miles, would bring an action for heavy damages. The letter pointed out that such flooding had occurred some years ago, and it was only by writing to the late Mr Massey that the Lands Drainage Department had been compelled to desist from its disastrous policy. The writer and Mr Miles would welcome an opportunity of discussing the matter with the board. The chairman said that a new outlet had been provided and the position was now better than ever before. It was decided to ask Mr Sutton what his specific complaint was. Contracts Let. The chairman reported that during the month the following contracts had been let: No. 43, deepening and Improving Ngatea-Pipiroa Road drain, Mr Stanish, at Did per cubic yard; widening and deepening from Pipiroa floodgate to Galvin’s corner, N. E. Perkins, at Is per cubic yard ; for supply of 60 4-foot concrete pipes at Waitakaruru, Mr J. E. Reid, at .£2 17s 6d. . Accounts. Accounts totalling £lB2 16s 8d were passed for payment.
