MR. DALLY SAFE.

RETURNS TO MARATOTO. SAVED BY STREAM. Mr R. Dally, an employee of the Ohinemuri Gold and Silves Mines, Maratoto. who had been missing since Thursday morning, returned to the settlement yesterday morning aftei’ having been lost in the bush for two days and two nights. Mr Dally, who is rather lame in one leg, went out with a gun on Thursday morning to shoot in the hills, with the expressed intention of returning shortly. When nightfall came and there was no sign of him, some of his friends became nervous, fearing that perhaps he had fallen down a gully and was unable to get out owing to his lame leg. Four of them thereupon went out in search of him, but returned to camp again at five on Friday morning after a fruitless tramp through the bush. The police were communicated with, and on Saturday morning work stopped at the mine so that every man could join in an organised search party to scour the adjoining country, but again without success. To the relief of those at Maratoto Mr Dally walked into camp on Sunday morning unharmed He explained that he had lost his way in some dense bush and, becoming bewildered, had lost his sense of direction. Later, on striking a stream he followed its downward course to open country and camp.
