THE HAURAKI REGIMENT. < PRESENTATION OF COLOURS. For the presentation and trooping of Colours of the Hauraki Regiment in February at Paeroa a flight of New Zealand Air Force aeroplanes will be present. Pongakawa War Memorial. The unveiling of the war memorial at Pongakawa took place on Wednesday last. Despite the miserable weather—it rained unceasingly all day—a large concourse of people were gathered from as fai' afield as Paeroa, Rotorua, Opotiki, and even Auckland. Before the actual ceremony the visitors were entertained to an excellent luncheon in the school room, for which the ladies responsible are to be congratulated. As the weather was so wretched practically all the programme had to be held indoors Addresses were given by LieutenantColonel J. E. Duigan, D. 5.0., chief staff officer, Northern Command, and Mr Cooney, chairman of the Te Puke Town Board, the gathering then proceeding to the Memorial. A Guard of Honour, consisting of members of lhe Waikato Mounted Rifles, was drawn up, there being may ex-service men present. Colonel Duigan performed the unveiling ceremony,, and the event was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem. The whole day was an unqualified success, and great credit is due Captain G. Cawte, the organiser. The Memorial itself takes the form of gates at the entrance to the Public School grounds, the face of the posts at either sides bearing the names of those who fell.
