ORPHANS’ CLUB.

LAST NIGHT’S SESSION. A PLEASANT EVENING. The usual good fellowship ,and bon cama-aderie characterised the monthly session of the Paeroa Orphans last night. Bro. L. E. Cassrels occupied the chair for the evening, and chose for his address a travelogue of his sojourn in California. The chairman, with many humorous illustrations and stories of interesting personal experiences, took his listeners over a goodly portion of the Golden State. The musical programme was contributed by Hamilton artists, and was most heartily appreciated by the brethren present. It was hard with such an evenly matched party of true entertainers to make any distinctions, as each contributor was equally well received, so the best way out of the difficulty is to merely give the splendid programme.

- Before supper songs were given by Messrs H. Piper, ‘‘Old Barty” and “The Admiral told a story”; J. R, Jones, “The Glory of the Sea,” “Friend,” “Where the Great Ships Ride,” and “Out where the Big Ships, Go” : R. Braithwaite, “The Star,” “I Heard You Sing,” and “Invictus”; and. R. Cooke, “The Gondolier.” Mr Cooke also recited one or two things to the unfeigned joy of his audience. Mr S. Valentine gave an exceedingly clever ventriloquist act, a duet between himself and one of his dolls be ing an exceptionally difficult and clever thing well done. After supper the following songs were given : Messrs Braithewaite and Piper, “Watchman, what of the night” ; R. Braithewaite, “The Diver” and “Drink to me only with thine eyes”; J. R. Jones, “The Last Call” and “The Trumpeter” ; and R.. Cooke, “Sailors Don’t Care” and “The Gravedigger’s Wedding ”
