FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
MEETINGS IN PAEROA. ODDFELLOWS PAST GRANDS. The, Thames Valley Past Grands’ Lodge, Manchester Union Oddfellows, was held in Paeroa on Wednesday last, the president, Bro. D. Currie, P.G., presiding. The meeting was well attended by members from Te Aroha, Netherton, Kerepeehi, Waikino, and Paeroa. Past officers’ degrees were conferred on several lodge members, and an address given by the president. A handsome set of regalia wias presented anonymously to the lodge fox’ membership competition between members of lodges of the Thames Valley., Rules to govern the competition, which will extend over a period of twelve months from August, 1929, were drawn up and approved. A motion of sympathy with the district secretary, Bro. W. Dean, in his family bereavement was passed in silence. Matters of Lodge interest, including the nomination of officers for 1930, were attended to and the next meeting arranged for Wednesday, October 30. . / The gathering, considered by meipbers to the most ethusiastic held since the inauguration of the Lodge last year, was brought to a close by the serving of a dainty supper. ' LOYAL JUBILEE LODGE. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Jubilee Lodge, Manchester Unity Oddfellows was held in the Soldiers’ Club, Paeroa, on Tuesday last. The N.G., Bro. S. Kerr, presided ovex’ a good attendance of members. A motion of sympathy with Bro. K. Dean in the death of his mother was passed in silence. The half-yearly balance-sheet presented by the secretary showed an exceptionally heavy period of sickness. The Noble Grand Bro. S. Kerr, notified the Lodge of his transfer to Whangarei. Members expressed appreciation of Bro. Kerr’s services to the Lodge and Order and regret at his departure. A letter of recommendation was granted and leave of absence approved. Sister M, Bertelsen, 1.P.N.G., was appointed actingNoble Grand. The Auckland District Grand Master, Bro. F. Best, will visit the lodge on Tuesday, August 6, and arrangenxents, including invitations to adjacant Lodges, were drawn up. , The social programme of the Lodge includes a visit to Loyal Netherton Lodge on Tuesday, July 30, and, with the co-operation of Netherton Lodge, football visits to Tuakau and Cambridge. A letter from the Auckland District Secretary stated that the New ‘Zealand branch of the Order was mak ing exhaustive enquiries into damage to lodge properties, and losses sustained by lodge members in the earthquake-stricken area with a view to a combined appeal to all members.
