PAST SEASON’S OPERATIONS. 39,040 TONS OF DAIRY PRODUCE. The final figures covering the operations of the N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., are now available, and a perusal of the returns clearly indicates that the phenomenal progress of past seasons has been more than maintained. During the 1928-29 season the company manufactured no less than 39,040 tons of dairy produce, made up as follows :— Buttei’ 27,195 tons Cheese .. .. 5,949 „ Milk Powder .. 4,341 „ Condensed Milk .. 934 „ Casein 621 „ Total 39,040 tons The combined output of butter and cheese from, the company’s factories in the Hauraki Plains, Thames Valley, and Goldfields for the season amounted to 4485 tons. When taking into consideration the great area covered by the company’s operations, it says a lot when the above district is thus responsible for between a seventh and an eighth of the total production.

This constitutes an Increase over the previous season of 3702 tons, with a butter-fat increase of 3,339,0051 b. When it is considered that ten years ago the total output was 11,652 tons, the extent of the company’s expansion is strikingly illustrated. The unparalleled increase which has been recorded for the last season is due, in the first place, to the excellent support accorded by dairy farmers in the company’s territory, assisted by favourable climatic conditions and a wider use of fertilisers. This latter was made possible by the company’s effort in reducing the cost of manures to a figure which brought this very necessary commodity more within the reach of the producer.
