QUEEN CARNIVAL.
BUSINESS QUEEN. STREET STALLS. Saturday evening in Paeroa belonged to the Business Queen. Street stalls, shooting galleries, a hoop-la stand, and a coffee stall broadcasted and caused the carnival spirit, despite the very cold weather. The whole affair was a huge success. A Paddy’s market, which had on display meat, poultry, fruit, vegetables, etc., was largely patronised, and returns were in excess of anticipation. After the ordinary method of sale, to clear the remaining stock a Dutch auction was held and every article disposed of.
Hoop-la and the shooting galleries attracted many of the passers-by, but the piece de la resistance and the inspiration of the evening was the het coffee and pie stall. To Start with a good drawing point and most acceptable adjunct on account of the cold weather, the humorous duologue and get-up of the salesman and his “wife” created a decided diversion and collected a large crowd. The "efforts of these two versatile men aided in no small measure in swelling the funds, every pie and every drop of coffee being disposed of.
THE UGLIEST MAN IN PAEROA. The result of the ugliest man in Paeroa competition resulted in Mr G. McKee being elected to the place of honour, with eight votes. Messrs W. Bain, A. Clowes, H. Hare, C. Mason, W. Marshall, R. Nield, C. N. O’Neill, and P. Williams were among those who “also ran.”
THE FARMERS’ QUEEN.

During the evening the Farmers’ Queen, Miss Helen was the recipient of a hula dress in the appropriate colour—red—gracefully presented by Mrs Wilkinson, senr. A number of visitors from Paeroa and Netherton also attended.
The enjoyable supper provided by the ladies and the compelling music supplied by the versatile Wilkinson family, with concertina and ukulele, completed a very happy function. Mr B. E. Veale proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Pendergrast for the use of his house and his share in organising the social, and this was earned by acclamation.
After. Mr Pendergrast had suitably responded the youger folk continued dancing until a late hour.
