DISTRICT NEWS.

NGATEA. HALL SOCIETY. The Ngatea District Public Hall' Society’s executive committee held its monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, Mr G. T. Davidson presiding over Messrs J. Darlington, G. Phillips, S. Phillips, W. Wylde and S. Tarver (secretary). The secretary reported having reached an agreement with Mr H. A. Hamilton for the picture screening rights. This was approved. The Thames Valley Electric Power Board acknowledged receipt of the society’s cheque for £lO in payment of the arrears on the street lighting account made on May 30. Mr Sprague advised that the lights would be reconnected as soon as instructions t>' that effect had been received from the County Council. The secretary reported having written on July 1 asking for an explanation of the delay Mr Darlington advocated having a light installed at the saleyards corner, and this was agreed to, the light to replace that previously placed on the Ngatea bridge. In view -of the small amount of business available an application by the lessees of the refreshment stall for a reduction in rent was granted to the extent of 2s 68 a week. On behalf of the Ngatea branch of the Church of England Ladies’ Guild Miss Dent wrote askig that the question of hall hire be considered with a view to a reduction for local functions such as those in aid of local churches. Some members expressed the view that it would be unwise to make a reduction to this applicant only, but it was agreed that it might be desirable to review the whole question on account of the fact that the demand for the' hall had certainly fallen off this winter and a reduction in charges might induce more business. It was decided to reduce the charge for local entertainments by ss.

The financial statement for the month of June showed earnings totalling £l5 19s Id, and expenditure, including a proportion of the annual charges, of £ll 4s 7d. The bank overdraft stood at £53 19s sd. Accounts totalling £4 15s Id were passed for payment.
