Some optimistic individual has recently been trying to get into the strong-room of the old Komata Reefs mine by way of a pick. Whoever the sanguinary one was, he gave up after r making a fair-sized impression in the cement side. The strong-room still stands intact, with the steel door securely locked, but the building it is in is suffering from general decay. THE HALL. The hall has now been levelled to the groud, and soon o trace will remain of a building that was at times filled with people who are now scattered to the four winds. THE SCHOOLHOUSE. ’ The school house has been pur- ’• chased by Mr M. Davidson, who intends to convert it into a residence for his own use. , THE PASTURES. / j The pastures round the region are P' looking very green and succulent, with many fine-looking cattle and sheep browsing thereon. A considerable amount of clearing and fencing has recently been done, the bush that once > lined the road having been cut well ■ back. . CONDITION S OF ROADWAY.. The five bridges along the road from the main highway are in a remarkably good state of preservation, despite their age. Some minor repairs are necessary and are already in band by the Ohinemuri County Council. The ford between the battery and dismantled hall is rather deep, but nothing can be done while the stream is so high. Despite the torrential rains experilately, the road is in excellent a splendid monument to the doughty men who first built it. Not t. many groups of backblocks settlers jjjire blessed with such fine mt’.ets. NETHERTON. & PUBLIC HALL IMPROVEMENTS. Very decided improvements have been made to the appointments to the Netherton Public Hall, and in this respect it is now equal to any in the district and far ahead of most of them. The temporary extension made to the stage by the local concert party has been made permanent, the supper room has been lined and given a ceiling,, fibrous plaster boards being used above a sft dado of varnished perpendicular boards. In the kitchen four large cupboards have been made, and *.a ventilator- has been provided to carry the steam froht the copper out of the Wkroom. The whole building has been ■/.cleaned and brightened up, and the hall committee is to be congratulated on its care of its trust.*
