Third Grade. Paeroa 3, v. Thames 3. Schools : Ngatea 31, : v. Kerepeehi 0. SENIOR TRIAL MATCH. Both A and B trial teams fielded short on Saturday at the Domain, with the result, through waiting for players, that the game started twenty minutes late with the following players :— A Team.—Rare, McCollum, Swann, Kerr, McGarvey, A. C. McCollum, Moore, Veddcr, Henderson, Taylor, Tohu, Killgour. B Team.—Pullar, McNeil, Bennett, Coldicutt, Harper, McKinnon, Duncan, N. Neil, > Beagley, Brown, Hamilton, Murray, Johnson. Greens (A) attacked from the commencement. McCollum on a fine run was well stopped by Coldicutt. Play carried to B territory, Pullar saved by forcing. Coldicutt made good distance on his own, bu t on passing a good movement was spoiled by a knock-on. Neil stopped a fine run by the A backs through cutting in. Swann ran from half-way with the ball, beating the field, but stopped just on the line, missing a certain score. B forced. Swann broke up a B attack by tackling effectively. A score near the line was lost by Swann overrunning the ball. McKinnon saved well in front of goal. A wild pass to McCollum lost him the chance of a score. The A’s were awarded a free kick for a breach in the scrum, Swann missing the posts from a long distance out. The B’s backs well fed from the lineout at half-way took the ball to near the line, where Coldicutt with the leather at his feet was robbed by A forcing down. Soon after the change-over some brilliant passing was done by the A backs, McCollum fended off and then fed McGarvey to score in a good position. Swann converted. A 5,8 0. The A backs were making a better display than their opponents. From a scrum on the line B forced. Coldicutt was playing an outstanding game. Tohu through some heavy work put McCollum in position to score. Swann failed with the kick. AB, B O. A continued having the advantage of play. A sudden attack by B swallowed up Rare in possession before he could get rid of the ball, the position being saved by it going out. B put on pressure, Neil showing to advantage. The A backs indulged in another passing rush, but were held up by the B forwards, who set their own backs in motion, Rare narrowly saving. Hard fighting on A’s line resulted in a force. McNeil, brought down on the line, passed to Hamilton, but McCollum got in first and cleared.

On the resumption of play after half-time Rare was changed over to play three-quarter for B and Puflar to full-back for A. Killgour, after. a find run, passed to Hamilton near the line, but the latter lost the ball.when tackled and Rare forced. Coldicutt’s playing approached the brilliant. From a scrum on A’s twenty-five line Coldicutt got the ball and set the backs going. From a scrum on the line McKinnon picked up and dived over for a score near the corner flag. Rare failed to convert. AB,B 3. Rare made a big difference to B. McKinnon, playing a splendid game, was one of the pick of B’s’ backs, Moore started a dribble at half-way and McNeil took over on the twenty-five line and kicked well over the line for Murray to drop on the ball and score. Beagley’s shot failed. AB, B 6. Hamilton saved with a long line kick. Neil gained considerable ground for his side.

In the final round A. C. McCollum retired hurt. Rare set the backs in motion, the attempt ending at the twenty-five flag. Tohu’s play throughout called for praise. B committed a breach in a scrum and, Swann converted. A 11, B 6. McNeil followed up' his kick and narrowly failed to score. Hard play followed in which neither side gained an advantage until Tohu opened up the game with a pass to the backs. Hamilton marked. Wild passing on the twenty-five line lost A a probable score: Play was even towards the end. with the final scores, A 11, B 6. THE JUNIORS. \ In the junior representative trial match the A team beat the B team by 20 points to 0. THE THIRD GRADE. In the third-grade match between Paeroa and Thames the result was a draw, both sides scoring 3 points each. PAEROA REPRESENTATIVES The following representative team has been chosen :— Full-back. Rare. Three-quarters : McCollum, Bax, McNeil. Five-eighths : Swann, A. C. McCollum. Half-back : H. A. Moore. Rover : Nield. Forwards : Vedder, Fitch, Henderson, Page, Thomas, Murray, Killgour (Pirates). Emergencies : Forwards, Johnson, Taylor, Beagley; backs, McGarvey, McKinnon, Pullar. All these players are requested to turn out for training at the Drill Hall on Wednesday at 7.30 p.m.
