NGATEA HIGH SCHOOL.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The Ngatea District High Shcool Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday evening, Mr W. McDuff presiding over Messrs R. Cornthwaite, C. Vagg, W. Wylde, R. Rowlings, E. C. Barriball, and W. Chappell, headmaster and secretary. Additional Roonu The Auckland Education Board advised that in accordance with the recommendation of the advisory inspector' the board had resolved to make application to the Education Department for the erection of a standard room as an addition to the secondary department. The board had resolved to defer for the present the question of erecting a new building instead of the present shelter-shed used for the primary department until such time as it was proved that the average attendance of the secondary department was sufficient to warrant the retention of the present staff. The headmaster reported that on receipt of the letter he had called on the board’s architect and had learned that it was proposed to add another room to the present building. After the matter had been discussed the architect had agreed to submit alternative proposals for a room in a distant part of the playground. If the room was joined to the present building it would be at the north-east corner, and would improve the appearance of the school. If thi* plan was adopted the room would be fitted up as ar. infants* room. Bus Services. Mr G. Connell wrote asking the committee to recommend the extension of his contract for the conveyance of children for a further two years, as this would enable him to secure a new vehicle. It was agreed to recommend the request. Shell for Paths. It was agreed to secure six yards of shell for paths and hollows in the playground. Fencing of Section. Advice was received from the Education Board’s architect that a grant would be made to cover the cost of fencing the recently acquired play-, ground. A grant of £3 for a new tankstand was also received. The provision of a fence and gate to keep people from trespassing on the playground was decided upon. French Gramophone Records. A circular letter was received from the Education Department offering to supply 15 double-side gramophone records suitable for teaching the French language for £3 6s, much below the usual price. The secretary’s action in ordering a set was approved. Ground for Hockey. Mr Rowlings advocated preparing an area for a hockey ground. Several other members supported; but it was argued that until the new football field was ready for use it was not desirable to deprive the boys of their* particular part of the playground. It was agreed that this was no raison why the work of preparation of the ground should not be commenced, and the work was authorised.
