The action of the Paeroa Council was greatly appreciated, especially in giving full support to application to the Government for a subsidy. Sir Joseph Ward. A telegram was received from Sir Joseph Ward, Bart., thanking the council for its invitation to visit the district and intimating that he would like to make the journey, but could not fit it in as suggested. The matter would require to stand over for consideration at some future date. Septic Tank. The borough solicitor, Mr. C. N. O’Neill, forwarded an agreement between the council and the Public Works Department regarding works at the septic tank pumping station, and which the latter agreed to, for the council’s seal if approved. Motor Regulations. Circular communications were received from the Commissioner of Transport on compulsory stop signs, amendment No. 3 of the Motor Lorry Regulations Act, 1927, which provided for quarterly payment of license fees, and traffic signs. In connection with the latter, a schedule of requirements was enclosed for the council to fill in its requirements in signs, so as to en- ' able the total number required to be estimated. It was decided to apply for danger signals, class 3, for the Puke Road intersection with Hill Street. These signs indicate local side roads to the left. Two signs were also decided upon fbr the hospital. Civic Survey and Notations. The Director of Town Planning, Mr J. W. Silcock, wrote stating that in connection with the Ngahina wharf something must be done to remedy the continual wash-outs between the wharf and the ramp, as serious trouble might occur. The matter had repeatedly been brought before the Public Works Department and the Paeroa Borough Council, and there was danger of an accident happening, and the liability for such would no doubt fall on the borough or the. department. The letter also stated that the approach to the wharf was badly in need of repairs, and continual complaints were being received from those who used the road. It only needed a few loads of metal. It was requested that the matters be regarded as urgent. It was resolved that a formal letter be sent to the district engineer of the Public Works Department pointing out the dangerous condition of the ramp and urging early attention to it, and that the road approach be repaired as early as convenient. Swimming Bath. The Mayor of Gisborne thanked the Mayor for a blue print and specifications of the Paeroa swimming baths erected at the cost of £l6OO. The subject had been exercising the minds of those interested at Gisborne for the last two years, as it was understood that the installation of public baths,, was a very expensive matter, and the receipt of the information on the subject had been of great benefit indeed, and the writer thought it would result in baths soon becoming an accomplished fact in Gisborne. Cr. Silcock remarked that it was pleasing to learn that the borough baths were becoming so widely and favourably known. New Lawn Mower. The Paeroa Bowling Club wished to know if it was possible for a new lawn mower to be obtained by the Domain Committee, as the present one was not cutting the grass close enough.
