TALL FESCUE.
INVESTIGATION OF MENACE. , POSITION RELATIVE TO ACT. ' The Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Agriculture, has written to the Hauraki Plains County Council with reference to the menace of tall fescue, and advises that arrangements been made for an officer of the Ag’.”.cultural Department, to thorcu;gh!y investigate and submit a report as to how the position can best 5 be inet. Unfortunately, sa.id the Minister... the Noxious Weeds Act did. mot per- 1 , mit of a local authority declaring any plant to be a noxious weted in only a portion of its district; it must be declared to be a noxious weed for the whole district or not at all. At the present time tall fescue was not in the schedule, but it could be added by Order- in-Council. However, in the circumstances it would seem best to await the departmental report before deciding on a line of action.
