SATURDAY SHOPPING.

SPLENDID RESULTS. LARGE CROWDS IN STREET. The first Saturday all-day shopping in Paeroa amply fulfilled expectations, as the crowded main thoroughfare and well-filled shops proved. Not for many a long day have Normanby Road and Belmont Road had so many cars parked along their sides, the number being reminiscent of nothing so much as race day.

A great many visitors from outlying districts took advantage of the occasion to come into Paeroa and do their shopping. The shops themselves were busy until closing time with numerous purchasers, the turnoverbeing most satisfactory.

One of the larger houses reported a most substantial increase over the best Friday’s results, with 25 per cent, more business for the week than their average week. More than half this business was accounted for an Saturday. One shopkeeper who was strenuously against Saturday opening now states as a result of his experience on Saturday his most emphatic support of this day as the one to remain open on.

A garage proprietor interviewed was most enthusiastic. Many customers from neighbouring districts brought increased trade, one buying a new car.

The local theatre was packed, it being within 40 of its total capacity. On all sides feelings of complete satisfaction were expressed as the outcome of the initial day’s experience, and optimism prevails for continued expanded business. Paeroa most certainly showed up well, and fulfilled her claim as a shopping centre. The brightly lighted and attractively decorated shops with their splendid displays made a wonderful spectacle which could not but have a good effect on both local and neighbouring shoppers, serving, together with the products offered at prices ruling, to emphasise why they should purchase in Paeroa.
