PLAINS DRAINAGE.

HAURAKI WEST AREA. MEETING OF BOARD. The Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board held its monthly meeting at Ngatea on Thursday afternoon, Mr C. W. Parfitt presiding over Messrs T. A. McClean, A. Douglas, J. Motion, E. L. Walton (clerk), and E. Flavcll (foreman). Mr A. H. McClean was granted leave of absence on account of illness. Foreman’s Report. The foreman reported that all cleaning contracts were completed.. All improving contracts with the exception of four were completed and passed. The other four should be finished by the end of the month. The Pipiroa outlet had been timbered. While measuring up the drain on the Puhanga Canal road, east side, he had found that many culverts were too high. There were slips in several drains which should be removed before the wet weather set in. It was decided to request the Canal Road settlers to lower their culverts, and the removal of the slips was authorised Dual Drain. The lands drainage engineer, Kerepeehi, wrote advising that the drain on the northern side of Phillips’ Road between the Puhanga canal and Pouarua drain reserve should be a dual drain. As the construction of the canal along the Pouarua reserve would alter the position the matter would have to be reviewed when the canal was completed. Request for Culvert. Mr J. E. Leonard wrote asking for the installation of 2ft pipes in the boundary drain between Mrs R. H. Dudding’s and his farm. The wooden culvert had decayed. The matter was referred to Mr T. McClean and the foreman for attention. Rawerawe Road. The lands drainage engineer, Kerepeehi, advised that the damage to the Rawerawe Road drain on a Crown leasehold section frontage had been repaired. Bank Overdrawt. A letter was received from the board’s bankers relative to its overdraft limit for next year. • On the clerk mentioning that :t would be advisable to get authority for as much overdraft as possible, he was authorised to proceed accordingly. Finance. The payment of accounts totalling £553 13s 3d was authorised. It was decided to advise ratepayers that the penalty would shortly be added to outstanding rates. Pipiroa Flood-gate. Mr Parfitt mentioned the need for improving the old flood-gate at Pipiroa. A new structure would cost about £l6, but repairs could possibly be done for half that amount. The matter was left in his hands for attention. Pipiroa Road Drain. The improving of the Pipiroa Road south side drain from Pipiroa to Pouarua Road was mentioned by the chairman as an essential work, though not necessarily an urgent one.
