TO-MORROW’S FIXTURES. TEAMS SELECTED. The draw for to-morrow gives two good games for Paeroa. West and Pirates meet in the senior game on No. 1 ground at 3.15 p.m., and a draw or a very close game is likely by their records this season. East and Suburbs seniors are due to start at 2.45 p.m. on the No. 2 ground. The East juniors travel to Hikutaia to try conclusions with Suburbs, as also does the third grade United team. The bus for the third-grade team leaves Thomas’ garage at 12.45 p.m. The following teams have been selected :— Seniors. West.—D. Fraser, J. Verran, R. Swann, L. Vercoe, L. Nield, A. McKinnon, L. C. Masters, S. Kerr, D. Henderson, A. Hamilton, T. Brown, K. Page, J. Beagley, L. Carrick, G. Taylor. Emergency: I. Vause. Pirates.—Pullar, A. A. McCollum, A. C. Meator. CRITICISM OF PLAYERS. (By “Onlooker.”) There was not a great deal to choose between East and Pirates last Saturday. East were disappointing in not fielding a full team, and with a fair junior team that they have this season there should be no reason for not turning out in full strength. Pirates have several passengers in their team who spoil the remainder, who do try to play football. Pearcey was missing and the ball was not hooked, which was a big handicap to the Pirates backs. Frost was taking things very easily, Bullock and Maxwell both played hard games. McCollum, on the wing, is a hard man to stop, and they should try him closer in. Coldicutt does not catch a ball too well; otherwise he plays a fair game, but would be more suited on the wing. Pullar played a safe game and kicked well; he is also a good place-kick.

East held their own well for the first half and kept Pirates thinking. E. Moore was sadly out of training, but is still a good general and has not forgotten how to kick goals. McQuarters improved on his previous games this season, but can do with plenty of training. H. Moore played another hard game, but has a bad habit of picking the ball out of the scrum. McNeil played much better than on the previous Saturday, but was up against a hard man in McCollum. Fitch was always in the thick of the work. Mitchell played a hard game. The Neil brothers were hooking well, but had poor opposition. Both teams should learn the proper’ method of tackling. HIGH SCHOOLS MEET. PAEROA DEFEATS WAIHI. A stirring match was played yesterday afternoon, when the Waihi High School team visited Paeroa to meet the local school representatives. The day was fine but dull when the following teams took the field : — Paeroa.—Alp, Silcock, M. Curtis, K. Curtis, Nicholls, Wells, Mayo, Dare, .Wayd* Campbell, Miller, Barclay, Marshall, Mclntyre, Bell. Waihi;—-Wrigley, McConnell, Cornthwaite, Hague-Smith, Cunliffe, Farrell, Richards, Calwell, R. White, Wotherspoon, Nesbit, Weedon, Thompson, Needham, White. ’’Paeroa kicked off, but Waihi quickly .had Paeroa defending. Alp saved. A forward, rush carried play into Waihi’s twenty-five and nearly over the line, the defenders forcing. From a throw-in Silcock scored. Curtis failed to convert. Paeroa 3, Waihi 0. Paeroa forwards indulged in some fine dribbling rushes, one led by Miller beign particularly, dangerous. , McConnell checked a Paeroa movement, and Farrell carried the ball to half-way from near his own line, and then play shifted into the home team’s territory. A keen tussle ensued until the Paeroa backs got going and shifted operations to the opposite end of the field. Calwell got in a fine kick and relieved for Waihi. . Mclntyre opened upfor M, Curtis'to score in the corner, and K. Curtis converted with a fine kick. Paeroa 8, Waihi 0. After Weedon had failed with a drop-kick play went to the other end of the field with a rush, Wrigley saving in brilliant fashion. White set off on a dribble but was held up by , Nichols. Wotherspoon showed up well. A drop-kick by Curtis’ failed to go over. Paeroa were defending when the whistle for the change-over went. attacked until Silcock, Marshall and M. Curtis joined in a loose rush which was checked by Nesbit. Waihi gained the advantage in a lineout and an advance was stopped by Dare with a mark. Dare and Silcock by passing put Waihi on the defense ive, the pressure being sustained until Cornthwaite forced. ; After the spell Waihi attacked strongly until M. Curtis forced. Coming again, Waihi’s tenacity was rewarded when Calwell broke away in close play and set a rush going which ended in Cornthwaite crossing the line. Weeden converted. Paeroa 8, Waihi 5. Weedon narrowly missed with a penalty kick, and then Marshall was prominent. From a scrum Miller broke away and passed to M. Curtis, to K. Curtis, who again crossed the line near the corner. The kick failed. Paeroa 11, Waihi 5. For the remainder of the game play was mostly restricted to the neutral zone, although towards the end Paeroa almost registered another try, Waihi forcing in the nick of time. No further points were registered, the game terminating with the scores, Paeroa 11, Waihi 5.
