THE RAINFALL.
HAURAKI PLAINS FIGURES. A LIGHT MONTH. The rainfall for last month, as recorded at the Lands Drainage Department’s office at Kerepeehi, was less than in any month of May since 1918, and was 1.8 inches below the May average for the last 17 years, being only 2.62 inches. Rain fell on 12 days, the heaviest fall being during the 24 hours from 8 a.m. on the 27th, when 1.07 inches was the amount recorded. A quarter of an inch fell in the three days from the Bth to the 10th, a little over 5 inch for the four days from the 13th to the 16th, a light fall on the 18th, and just under U inches during the four days from the 24th to the 27th. The total for the yCar to date is 13.69 inches, which is 3.57 inches below the average for the first five months of the last sixteen years. At the Waitakaruru school there was a fall of 2.34 inches during the month and covering 12 days, the wettest day being the 28th, when 1.22 inches of rain fell.
