LOCAL AND GENERAL

The Mayor, Mr W. Marshall, in company with the Mayor of Waihi, Mr W. M. Wallnutt, will meet at the Waikino battery to-morrow representatives of the Mines Department and the Waihi mine. A conference will be held with a view to drafting a final agreement for public crushing facilities at the Waikino battery.

New number plates have been issued to 243 motor-cars and trucks and 30 motor-cycles in Paeroa. Approximately 50 cars and 30 cycles have yet to be re-licensed.

Paeroa vital statistics for May show four births, one . marriage, and no deaths, as against nine births, four marriages, and one death in the same month last year.

The weekly meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union has been postponed until Thursday evening at 7.30 o’clock, owing to the unavoidable absence of several of the committee.

When the Thames Valley Rugby Union was discussing boundaries at its meeting the other night an amusing incident was mentioned by a delegate. The property of a certain enthusiastic player was partly within the boundary of one union and partly in a'nother. A stream was the demarkation line, and as his house was on the side under the jurisdiction of the union he did not want to play for, the stalwart pitched a tent on the opposite bank and crossed every night to sleep there, thus putting himself “on side.”

Those interested in and those who intend to become members of the Paeroa Defence Miniature Rifle Club are reminded that the official opening and initial shoot will take place to-night at 7.30 in the Drill Hall.
