PAEROA-POKENO LINE.
MINISTER’S INTENDED VISIT. ROUTE TO BE INSPECTED. The Mayor, Mr W. Marshall, has received information from Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P., that the Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Railways, has agreed to the Paeroa Borough Council’s request to inspect the projected route of the Paeroa-Pokeno railway. The Minister will leave the limited express on its arrival at Pokeno between 8 and 9 o’clock in the morning and motor across the route. Luncheon will take place in Paeroa, at which a reception will be tendered to the Minister, who will afterwards proceed to Auckland. The date is not yet definitely fixed, but in all probability it will be Saturday, June 1. At a special meeting of the council on Saturday night it was unanimously decided to invite members of Parliament in the interested districts, including city members, to inspect the route with the Minister, and with the heads of local bodies in the district to be the guests of Paeroa at the luncheon. In order to do this an appear to the business people for funds is to be made. It is evident that the Paeroa Borough Council is leaving no stone unturned to forward this most important and vital proposal. As the matter is in the interests of Paeroa from every point of view, and is of undoubtedly great importance to its business men in particular, the people can be depended upon to get behind the Borough Council and assist it to the full with the programmo.
