SWIMMING CLUB.

DANCE IN GAIETY THEATRE. A BRILLIANT FUNCTION. The Gaiety Theatre presented a scene of brightness and gaiety on Thursday evening last, when the inaugural dance of the Paeroa Swimming Club was held. The club had gone to great pains to make the evening attractive, and in this they succeeded. The hall was crowded. Over 200 dancing enthusiasts foregathered, and the decorations, with the many pretty dresses worn, made a scene of gaiety itself. The decorations consisted of ikau palms and streamers of old gold exquisitely arranged in the centx-e and draped to the sides. The Dixie Boys’ music was irresistible, and appeal after appeal was made by the dancers for the music to continue. The hon. secretary and organiser, Mr D. Fraser, is to be congratulated on the successful arrangements and result of the evening. The work of Miss North —in charge of the supper arrangements and table decorations —was highly complimentary. Just before, supper the president thanked all who had contributed to the success of the evening and complimented the winners at the swimming carnivals. He also thanked the donors of medals and trophies, who in this way had materially helped the club. He looked forward to the coming season to put the Paeroa Club on the map in connection with swimming. The trophies won during the season by local competitors were handed out as follows :— 33 l-3yds, Girls under 17: Miss Allison Barclay, 2nd. 33 l-3yds, Girls under 14 : Miss Dulcie Simmonds, Ist. 33 l-3yds, Girls under* 17: Miss Dulcie Simmonds, 2nd.
