COUNTY CHAIRMEN.
OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL. ELECTION OF CR. C. MASON. At the annual meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council on Wednesday Cr. C. Mason was unanimously elected by acclamation chairman over the following council : Crs. T. A. Barrett, G. Hoye, W. F. Johnstone, C. E. Mace,.. J. B. Morris, R. R. Morrison, A. R. Robinson, and W. G. Thornton, all of whom were present. Messrs Barrett, Hoye, and Thornton took their seats for the first time. Cr. Robinson, in proposing Cr. Mason as chairman, said the latter had had not only local body experience with the Ohinemuri County Council, but on a borough adjacent to Auckland. As the previous chairman, Mr H. M. Corbett, had remarked, the work devolving on the shoulders of a councillor who occupied that position was increasing each year, and it needed someone of wide' experience. He was sure Cr. Mason was the experienced and proper person to be chairman. In seconding, Cr. Mace stated that Cr. Mason would make a good chairman. He took a great deal of interest in the county, and would be an acquisition to the council in the proposed capacity. Cr. Mason would, as chairman, bring credit to the council. Cr. Mason, in thanking the councillors for electing him chairman, said he regarded it as an honour and a privilege to fill the position. He realised that the essential factor for success was co-operation between the council, himself, and the staff, which he was quite sure would be accorded. That being so, and working together, they would do what was best in the interests of the county. Representative on Highways Board. Cr. Mason, in nominating Cr. Robinson for re-election to the seat on the Main Highways Board, referred to the late chairman’s (Mr Corbett) remarks about the capabilities of Cr. Robinson in connection with the board and the valuable work he had done there. There being no further nominations, Cr. Robinson was unanimously reelected amid acclamation. In thanking the councillors for reelecting him Cr. Robinson said he could claim to be conversant with, the Highways Board, and would continue to look after the interests of the county to the best of his ability, as he had done in the past. In the past he had not been entirely useless, as all the applications he had put before the board had gone through. HAURAKI PLAINS COUNTY. CR. C. W. HARRIS ELECTED. Cr. C. W.
