NEW ZEALAND MEAT.
EXPORT FIGURES. DECREASE OVER A PERIOD. Considerable decreases were shown in the export of all classes of New Zealand frozen meat, except pork, during the period October 1, 1928, to April 30, 1929, compared with the same period last year. Figures this year show 61,483 quarters of beef, 901,714 carcases of mutton, 3,220,678 of lamb, and 97,370 of pork exported, as against 171,704, 1,043,404, 3,366,699, and 71,169 respectively last year. This shows a decrease of 110,221 in beef, 141,690 in mutton, and 146,Q21 in lamb ; but an increase of 26,201 in pork. The London market was responsible for the greater part of the decreases, no doubt through the terrible winter experienced there having restricted the purchasing power of the people. On the other hand, exports to New York showed an appreciable increase of 5667 in beef and 36,254 in lamb, although a decrease of 4005 in mutton.
