MILITARY NOTES.

THE REGIMENT. r DECORATION. The Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal has been awarded to Major W. C. I. Sumner, the Hauraki Regiment. EAMINATIONS. The following list of second-lieu-tenants passed subject A at the recent examinations for promotion to lieutenant ; A. J. B. Dixon, G. E. Wilkins, T. R. Birdsall, C. T. J. Luxton, N. W. Steele, R. Jones, N. A. Concoran, J. Melville, and R. C. Mitchell. Sixteen officers in New Zealand secured this pass, the Haurakis thus having half to their credit. Examinations of those who partially passed for promotion in September were held throughout New Zealand on May 8, the Hauraki Regimental District sitting taking place at Whakatane. A tactical course for field officers of the Northern Command will be held at Cambridge from August 23 to 28. GENERAL. KING’S BIRTHDAY. A large review and march past will take place at the Auckland Domain on June 3, His Majesty’s birthday. The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, will take the Royal salute from some, 6000 troops, consisting of artillery, engineers, signallers infantry, Army Service Corps, Medical Corps, and cadets, headed by the Navy, with whom will be parading units of the Naval and Volunteer Naval Reserve. The grandstand will be reserved for returned soldiers and nurses. REUNION. The Auckland Mounted Rifles Refiiment, N.Z.E.F., will hold a reunion on June 1 at the Lewis Eady Hall, Auckland, an affair which will be strictly confined to members who served overseas. Any qualified members who have not received invitations are requested to communicate with Lieut. V, J. Innes, Defence Office, Paeroa, who will see that they receive one.
