NGATEA PUBLIC HALL.
ANNUAL MEETING. The Ngatea Public Hall Society held its annual general meeting on Monday evening, Mr G. T. Davidson presiding over Messrs J. King, J. Darlington, G. Phillips, E. C. Barriball, S. Tarver, H. Dent, R. C. Abel, E. L. Walton, W. G. Hayward, S. Harris, and Mrs Harris. Annual Report. The annual report was read as follows :— “In presenting this year’s balancesheet it is my pleasure to report a fairly satisfactory year’s working. The picture rent has been the main source of our revenue. The vdrious lettings of the hall for dances, etc., have this year only produced £73, as against revenue from this source last year of £l2B. Un the recommendation from last annual meeting the committee has secured a good second-hand piano, and this seems to be giving every satisfaction. Seven more seats and six chairs have also been purchased. On instructions from the annual meeting the committee has gone on with the work of piping and filling the drain along the hall frontage. This has been completed, and will be metalled when the county engineer has a truck available for the work. These items of special expenditure amount to £156, less £l7 for goods sold : this explains the small increase in the bank overdraft over’ last year, almost the whole of this expenditure having been met out of current revenue.
“The committee has also undertaken the management of financing the Ngatea street lights,, and has held one social: The proceeds from this social, plus the council’s subsidy, leaves a balance of 10s 2d still to be raised to clear off the 'old debt. The agreement with Mr Hamilton terminates on June 30, and it will be for the incoming committee to arrange a new agreement. “The year now commencing ought to see our debit balance wiped out and a reserve fund started. Next March the lease of the section to Mr J. E. Reid'will expire, and on his purchasing we' shall l have £l5O coming from this source. “Mr Tarver (secretary), gives notice .that he will move the following resolution at the annual meeting : “That the following names. of members of the society who have, left the district shall be crossed off the roll of members : D. A. Vincent, E. H. Brooker, J. N. Anderson, J. Terrill, N. J. Crabbe, J. Bratlie, C. G. Mellor, R. E. Jamieson, J. Banks, H. M. Norrie, L. G. Buckingham, and the Rev.
