ANNUAL MEETING. RESIGNATION OF SURGEON. The resignation of 'Mr J. Costello, surgeon to the Hauraki Plains Farmers Vstex.’pary Club, was accepted with regret by members at the annual general meeting at -Ngatea on Friday. Mr C. W. Scni'itz presided over about thirty members.
The following communication was received f? cm Mrs Costello dated May 1, and written from pukekohc • “ I sincerely regret that owing to the serious illness of Mr Costello rhe annual report has not been prepared for the meeting, and since Mr Costello has been out cf 'hospital .1 have bqen unable to leave him. I also regret to inform you that. Mr Costello will be. unable to resume duty, as at present lie is dangcrciusly ill, and the doctor has. given very little hoye of his recovery. I regret very much. having to sever our connection with the Veterinary Club, as our association with it has, been most pleasant, <ind I takq this opportunity of thanking the president, executive, secretary, and members for the great kindness and courtesy that has always bqen extended to uS; It has been a gir,eat pleasure to wplrk with you. Mr Costello would very much have liked to have beeji able to get home, to meet you all, but God has dccreefl otherwise. Kindly convey our thanks to the various cream cartage contractors" for their kindness- in delivering parcels of medicine; also Mr Phillips, foir carting drugs; from the wharf. Thq car is in gpod order, and in safe keeping. Again thanking you and wishing the el ub every success.” The resignation was accepted with regret, and -thef secretary was instructed to a letter of sympathy to Mrs, Costello, and also) to thank her for her servic.es to the club. It was also decided to grant. Mr Costello six months’ salary from date. The appointment of a new veterinary surgeon was. left, to the committee with full power to act.
The balanc.e-sneet for the year ending March 31, 1929, which was adopted subjept to audit, gave the following information: Balance at April 1, 1928, £1 10s 6d; members fees received, £5Bl 10s; medicine charges, £223 4s 5d ; total, £BO5 4s lid. * The items of expenditure were: Salaries £468 10s, medicines £l4l Os 4d, telephone rental and installing extension £lo' 'ss 10d, bureau fees and postages £l4 11s 3d, printing and. advertising £3 Isi Bd, insurance of surgeon £9 3s 9d, hall hire 10s, deposit on ear SB* 13s 4d, instalments on car £76 Ils 4d, cojmmissibn on collecting accounts £2 6s 6d, audit fees (four years) £8 Bs, miscellaneous £3 13s, bank charges £1 18®, legal fees £1 Is, total £797 14s, balance £8 10s lid. The statement of assets and liabilities set down the value of t'he cp.r at £lBB 18s lOd, drugs, on hand £lO, outstanding, subscriptions £133, outstanding medicine fees £ll3 9s 6d, and cash £8 10s lid, making a total of £453 19s 3d. The liabilities totalled £.150 13s 10d, including £95 14s 2d, due on the car, so the balance of assets ove,r liabilities was £303 ss| sd. . In discussing the balance-sheet the question of outstanding fees was dealt with,' and it was recommended! that the committee go into the question of appointing collectors in various districts. It was suggested that the club should endeavour to purchase from Mr Costello the many proved' remedies and formulas, which he had evolve/d and used with such success, but no decision was reached, the matter being referred to the eolmmittee. The following officers were] elected: Presient : Mr C. W. Schultz.;; vicepresidents : Messrs R- Burke and CVagg; committee: Messrs W. Me. Ca.rthy, E. Martin, Andrews, G. Phillips, and W. Jones. The retiring officers were accorded votes of thanks f'P»* their The question of membership feps was brought up by Messrs C. WSchultz and W. Laurence, whei had given notice of intention to move that subscription for membership be £5 for ne shed, but whe(re a member ha.d moire than one milking shed an additional £2 10s be charged in respect to each shed. This was, defeated, and it. was decided that fees remain as before, ex 7 cept that a charg.e of 5s be made for each visit after eight visits, which were covered by the membership fee of £5.
