NGATEA HIGH SCHOOL.
- o MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ‘ The Ngatea District HigJ> School Committtee held its monthly meeting on Saturday evening, Mr W. MCDuff presiding over Messrs:. R. RoWlingis, C. Vagg, R. Cornthw*ite, C. 8. Foster. Ek C- Barriball, W. Wylde, and W. Chappell (secretary). ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION. Mr Chanpell reported that the Education Board’s Advisory Inspector had visited the school on 29th April, to look into the matter of accommodation. He had pointed out to him the increase' in roll numbers, and had advanced the committee’s suggestion that a detached building be .provided for the accommodatiptn of the infant classes. This the inspector had fully approve/] of and had promised to do his utmost to have it authorised, saying that it would not be his fault if tli.e detached classrooms were not provided in the near future. ACCESS WANTED. The secretary reported having written to the Minister of Lands, urging the granting to the school of a small strip of land to give access from the main road to ime land recently added to the school ground. The only access notw available was across land not part of the school ground, and it would be next to impossible to provide access through the playground as it was laid out in gardens', tennis courts, etc. SEPTIC TANK. The chairman reported that he had received advice from the Hume Pipe Company that it was quite possible to construct a septic tank to serve thq school. Mr Foster mentioned that the county engineer had agreed to take levels and preparq a suitable scheme. He pointed out that the fact had not been stressed hitherto that high spring tide would not coincide with thq times when t'he system would he in use. It was agreed to gjve all the information available to Mr Basham, and ask him to prepare a scheme that would overcome the engineering objections raised by the board’s architect. SECONDARY ASSISTANT. The Auckland Education Board ad* vised that Miss C. S. Burns had been appointed secondary assistant at the High School as from May 27. She was qualified to teach home science. MINISTERIAL VISIT. Mr A. W. Hall, M.P., advised that the Minister of Education had hot yqt stated when he would visit tha electorate, but the committee would be advised as soon as the date was •ettled. HORSE TROUGHS. The matter of installing a water supply to t'he horse paddock was mentioned by Mr Barriball, and It was decided to defer the matter until the ;yjproach of summer. ' FENCING. Mr C. S- Foster moved that additional wires be placed on the fences of thb new paddock to prevent those attending football matches from getting, through 9r over, and thus damaging the fences and the new grass. It was decided to have the work done before next Saturday. HEATING. The ordering'of coal and firewood was authorised, and it was decided to instruct the caretaker to light the fires in the classrooms on. cpld mornings.
