COUNTY ELECTIONS.
POLL ON WEDNESDAY. KEEN INTEREST ANTICIPATED. With Wednesday, the polling day for the Ohinemuri County Council elections, the matter of a few hours off, interest is already being manifested, and voting promises to be heavy. Paeroa riding has to decide which two of three candidates will represent it on the council, the names of Messrs T. A. Barrett, J. T. Brown, and W. F. Johnstone having been submitted. All three are farmers on the outskirts of the Paeroa borough, Mr Johnstone being a member of the late council seeking - re-election, while the other two candidates are standing for the first time. As all three are qualified for the position it is impossible here, and quite unfair, to discuss their various merits. For the other ridings of the county no election will be necessary except in Waihi, where Mr A. H. Blackmore opposes Mr G. Hoye, and in Waitekauri, the issue there being between Mi- Otto Bjerring and Mr W. G. Thornton. As well as the electing of members to various vacancies, the ratepayers have a grave issue to decide in the poll for proposed rating on the unimproved valtie within the county. In another part of this issue are given figures supplied by the county office which will be a great use as an approximate guide to those directly interested in the question. HOSPITAL BOARD. Considerable interest also centres round the election in connection with the Hospital Board, there being three nominations for two seats —Messrs W. C. Kennedy, L. G. Roberts, and A. R. Robinson. Of these, Messrs Kennedy and Robinson are well tried, having served with efficiency on the board for some years.
