Ngatea 10. Waitakaruru 15, v. Kerepeehi 0. In the senior game on the Domain Pirates secured a last-minute win over East, after East had done most of the pressing during the afternoon. PIRATES V. EAST. East.—Williams, Zenovich, Lloyd, Kusabs, Reid, Moore, Treanor, Nealie, E. Neil, N. Neil, F. Fitch, Mitchell, Murray, Johnson, Jones. Pirates.—Pullar, Coldicutt, A. C. McCollum, Gage, McCollum, Tukukino, Thorp, Frost, Young, Tomich, Peke, Ratliff, Killgour, Saunders, Mawxell.

East kicked off and immediately carried the ball into Pirate’s twentyfive, where give and take play took place, Pirates being forced to touch down. Following a series of scrummages Moore opened up the game by setting the three-quarters in motion, Kusabs taking a fine shot at goal but missing. Kusabs in possession again was overwhelmed before he could get the ball clear. Pullar found the line well down, from the throw-in A. McCollum getting the ball and making a fine but abortive attempt to break through. At this juncture Mitchell was hurt, being able to resume in a few moments. A dangerous situation for Pirates was saved by A. McCollum kicking in pretty style overhead into touch. East kept pressing hard, Reid, Page, Moore, and Lloyd showing up well in ding-dong play, while Young made his weight felt. The first quarter ended with no score being registered. On resuming after the change over East fumbled badly. Reid carried the ball in a splendid individual effort, only to be bundled into touch. Pullar with a good kick found the line at half-way, this full-back giving throughout a fine exhibition of kicking. Pirates backs broke away in a good passing bout which finished in touch close to the line. A penalty kick awarded against East was sent over by Pullar from an easy position, making the score 3 to 0 in favour of Pirates. Zenovich followed up his kick and again secured the ball, passing to Moore, who opened the game. Pullar mulled the ball but managed to get in his kick in time. Kusabs was responsible for some good work, carrying the ball some distance on several occasions. Frost brought off a good tackle. Poor passing by Pirates resulted in the ball being lost in touch; Pullar claimed a mark, Treanor with a splendid effort just missing the posts. A passing bout by East ended in touch. East pressed hard and Pirates forced. A magnificent individual effort on the part of Reid, who ran from his own twenty-five, resulted in him scoring. Reid was well supported in this try, which was unr onverted. Coldicutt on the run v/as brought down by Kusabs. I’cllar missed with a drop-kick. Gig? gjc in some useful work, the bell going with the half-time score, Pirates 3, East 3. East offside shortly after resuming gave Pullar a chance at goal from half-way, a good shot that narrowly missed. Pirates got away in a pretty passing bout, ending in McCollum being brought down. Thorp was doing splendidly getting the ball clear from the scrum and mixing into things, a penalty kick taken by him missing by inches. Fitch pushed Pullar, who was without the ball, over the line and suffered. Give and take play in Pirate’s twenty-five followed East’s pressing, Pullar saving a threatening situation by taking a mark. Peke showed up well. Zenozich rushed through, following the ball, and after a great attempt, missed. Immediately after commencing. the final round Puller saved again in a tight corner, this time by finding the line . Both McCollums were working hard and were responsible in opening up the game several times, as was Moore, who throughout' played a splendid game. A breach on the line in a mix-up brought relief to Pirates. Coldicutt missed with a drop-kick at goal in loose play, but shortly afterwards made a fine run. The Pirates forwards gave a good exhibition of dribbling. Kusabs collected well, kicked effectively, and followed through. Moore fumbled, but quickly recovering, picked up and found the line. Here Mitchell was again laid out for a few minutes. Pullar following through collared his man in fine style. A knock-on by Young gave McCollum an opportunity to convert, but the ball went wide. Pirates pushing, Gage doing his best failed to hold. Moore found the opponents’ twentyfive with a kick from his own territory. Maxwell showed to advantage. As the result of an unfortunate misunderstanding Moore was ordered off the field. Reid put in a good run. Just after the final bell went Coldicutt gathered the ball and rushed through the thick to score between the posts. The try was converted, leaving Pirates the winners, with the scores, Pirates 8, East 3. WEST V. SUBURBS. Although not a sparkling exhibition of Rugby, the game was hard and cleanly fought. About five minutes after the game commenced West committed a breach in front of the posts and Mcßae had no trouble in sending the ball over the bar. This was the only score of the match. Suburbs was the better team on the day, and deserved the win of 3 points to 0. THE JUNIORS. SUBURBS V. WEST. Suburbs did most of the pressing at the onset, West being narrowly saved on one occasion by a penalty awarded against Suburbs. Play was carried backwards and forwards between the twenty-five lines, when, as

the result of a penalty against West Potter converted, making the score at the end of the first quarter Suburbs 3, West 0. On the change-over Suburbs continued to press strongly, Verran relieving by a fine line kick. Suburbs took the initiative again and Robinson scored an unconverted try. Poland, playing well for West, carried the ball to Suburbs’ line for Duffy to score. The shot at goal missed, and the scores at half-time were Suburbs 6, West 3. In the second half play continued to be well fought. Robinson scored a try for Hikutaia which was unconverted, and Alp scored for West, Poland converting. The game ended with the scores Suburbs 9, West 8. THE /THIRD GRADE. EAST V. WEST. An insufficient number of players turning up, a scratch match was played.
