TURUA TOWN BAND.
PROGRESS OF BOYS. EFFORT TO PROVIDE FUNDS. About nine months ago, when the Turua Band was in a dormant state, a few enthusiastic members undertook its reorganisation and the enrolment of boys to form the present Turua Town Band. At that time there were four instruments, aside from the ones owned by those members of the old band who linked up with the new orgaisation. Under the wise management of a local committee, and with the capable instruction of Bandmaster Christie, the band has prospered and now has 26 members and a long waiting list of applicants for instruments. The 22 instruments purchased by the band are now nearly paid for, donations having flowed in from all parts of the district when the splendid progress of the band was noted at their public appearances. Much money for the purpose was also raised by social functions. The band is now faced with the problem of providing funds for uniforms. These are essential under the terms of registration, and their possession within the next few months will enable the offer to be accepted of free accommodation for one week in Auckland for the boys of the band.
The committee is leaving no stone unturned that will mean an increase in the funds. Among the activities is a monster bazaar, which will be held on Thursday next, and from the nature of the preparations being carried out there seems justification for the claim advertised that there will be for sale everything from a needle to an anchor.
