RIFLE SHOOTING.
. J THE PAEROA CLUB. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committe of the Paeroa Defence Rifle Club was held on Tuesday, when the president, Mr Edwin Edwards, presided. ~f Firing at Range. A letter «was received from the Defence Department stating that the range was quite safe for use, but the owners of the property adjoining must be given at least two days’ notice before firing took place ; also, the dinger flag in the rear of the butts must be flown during firing operations. It was decided to comply with these conditions. 'lt was also decided to obtain the services of two boys as markers. i Sum for Trophies. It was resolved that an amount of £4 4s be allocated to trophies for the Winners of the Club Championship ajnd the Club Handicap Aggregate competitions. ■ Election to Committee. Rfm. R. I. Roberts was elected to fill a vacancy on the committee. Formation of Miniature Rifle Club. Captain Simmonds brought forward the subject of forming a miniature rifle club in conjunction with the existing Defence Rifle Club, and after some discussion it was resolved that a general meeting of the club be called and that it be a recommendation to the general meeting to form a miniature rifle club, to be called the Paeroa' Defence Miniature Rifle Club, such club, jb be subsidiary to and under the' control of the executive of the Paeroa Defence Rifle Club and governed by their rules. Captain Simmonds reported having interviewed the Defence authorities op the subject, and he had made tentative arrangements with reference to the rifle range and equipment in the Pheroa Drill Hall. •; It was resolved to thank the officers of the Defence Department for their assistance. ■'Captain Simmonds undertook to procure books of rules controlling miniature rifle clubs, and further action was deferred until the general nieeting, to be called upon receipt • of these books. SATURDAY’S SHOOT. ‘ On Saturday the members of the Paeroa Defence Rifle Club fired the final but one shoot for the Club Handicap and continued the Club Championship. Shooting' was carried out from the 500 and 600 yards ranges, and the conditions were rather good. Captain H. Simmonds topped the afternoon’s scores with 68 out of a possible 70, and scored the- possible number of points at 500 yards. The following are the scores :— .Captain H. Simmonds, 35 at 500yds, 33 at -600yds . .(set.)—6B ; - Dep.-Pres. F. C. Hubbard, 32, 30 (2)—64 ; Rfm. R. Wells, 28, 30 (4)—62 ; Rfm. W. A. Reid, 30, 30 (2)—62 ; Rfm. R. I. Roberts, 31, 25 (5)—61 ; Rfm. R. W. Roberts, 27, 25 (8)—60 ;R. K. Wells, 25, 18 (12j—55 ;W. Parry, 15, 25 (12)—' 52. The three leading marksmen in, the Club Championship are Capt. H. Simmonds,' 437 ; Dep.-Pres. F. C. Hubbard, 418 ; and Rfm. R. I. Wells, 385. In the? Club Handicap Aggregate the leading three are Dep.-Pres. F. C. Hubbard, 500 ; Rfm. W. A. Reid, 492 ; and Rfm. A. A. Jenkinson, 481.
