FEBRUARY AVERAGES.
FIGURES FOR DISTRICT GROUPS
February figures for groups of cows in this district tested by the N.Z. Co-operative Herd-Testing Association are as follows :—
Ngatea.—B43 cows, 5951 b milk, 4.1 test, 24.551 b fat last season; 909 cows, 5971 b milk, 4.0 test, 24.15 fat this season. Highest herd, of 44 cows, averaged 29.131 b fat; highest cow 591 b fat and lowest cow 41b fat.
Patetonga.—9os cows, 5471 b milk, 3.8 test, 21.261 b fat last season ; 686 cows, 5171 b milk, 4.6 test, 24.201 b fat this season. Highest herd, of 28 cows, averaged 31.321 b fat; highest cow 471 b fat and the lowest cow 71b fat.
Shelly Beach. —353 cows, 5321 b milk, 4.4 test, 23.831 b fat last season ; 299 cows, 4691 b milk, 4.5 test, 21.541 b fat this season. Highest herd, of 40 cows, averaged 27.101 b fat ; highest cow 471 b fat and lowest cow 71b fat.
Turua.—sB9 cows, 5831 b milk, 4.2 test, 24.671 b fat last season; 615 cows, 5941 b milk, 4.4 test, 26.521 b fat this season. Highest herd, of 75 cows averaged 32.801 b fat; highest cow 601 b fat and lowest 71b fat.
Waihi.—967 cows, 4111 b milk, 4.4 test, 18.371 b fat last season; 915 cows, 5721 b milk, 4.4 test, 25.341 b fat this season. Highest herd, of 30 cows, averaged 35.731 b fat; highest cow 671 b fat and lowest 51b fat.
Waitakaruru.—446 cows, 6241 b milk, 4.1 test, 25.6671 b fat last season ; 391 cows, 5831 b milk, 4.2 test, 24.931 b fat this season. Highest herd, of 37 cows, averaged 36.481 b fat ; highest cow 491 b fat and lowest 31b fat.
The highest monthly group average was that of Ngarua, with 33.151 b fat, followed by Tairua, which headed the list last month with 32.061 b fat; the highest herd average, that of Coromandel with 48.751 b fat; and the highest individual cow was a tic between cows in the Manawaru and Putaruru groups, each registering 851 b fat.
The averages for 72,211 cows tested in February were 5711 b milk, 4.5 test, and 26.04 fat. Last season there were 63,997 cows tested in February, with averages of 4571 b milk, 4.4 test, and 20.391 b fat.
It is interesting to note that the Hauraki Coromandel Peninsula again heads the highest herd average, with Coromandel taking the place of Mercury Bay, whilst in the highest group average Tairua which headed the list for January, came a very close second.
