. The somewhat prolonged dry spell of weather came to a close on Tuesday night, when beneficial rain fell throughout the night and Wednesday, with heavy showers on Wednesday night and Thursday. Last night further heavy rain was experienced. The reading of the gauge for the last three days at the Public Works Department’s office is as follows : Wednesday, .74 ; Thursday, 1.33 ; and this morning, 1.3 inches.
Nominations for the position of conimittemen in connection with the Paeroa District High School close tomorrow’ (Saturday) with the chairman, Mr J. C. H. McDonald.
At the annual meeting, of the Paeroa Golf Club last night it was mentioned that the services of Mr N. Bell, golf coach, had been secured for May 20 to 26, and also in August.
At a meeting of the committee of the Paeroa Amateur Swimming Club on Wednesday night it was decided to fittingly wind up the season by holding a dance, when trophies won in club events will be presented. A dance committee, consisting of Miss North and Messrs Denize, Jenkinson, Hayward, Priestley, and the secretary (Mr D.<R. Fraser), with power to add, was appointed to carry out all matters in connection with the dance.
The opening of the Waihi Golf Club, and also the Thames Club, will take place to-morrow. . Invitations were received at the local golf club meeting last night for members to attend.
A pupil of the Waihi District High School qualified in the Waihi Mwiiir cipal Baths this, season for a mile (lista.i!c.e cetrjiicate of the New Zealand Amatqin- Swimming Association..
