FASHIONS FROM LONDON & PARIS

The interest of autumn fashion season revolves very largely around gowns and cloaks, and, of course, autumnal weddings.

Wedding gowns, whi’st preserving the classic dignity, requisite for the occasion, are made, so that they may be readily adapted for evening wear. At a recent London wedding, lh> bridq wore an entirely lace froe.k of a new pastel shade of pinkish cream that ca.n only be likened to the heart of a tea rose. The pattern was brought more into relief by an embroidery of pearls on a, fine background of pinky-cream silks. The skirt, which consisted) of this lovely pearl qmbossed lace, hung full, in medieval fashion, from the normal waistline, and touched the •ground at the back, being ./.lightly inclined upwards at the front. The bodice was tight-fitting, and die lac.e rather more sparsely pearl-sewn. It was drawn beneath a pqarl girdle knotted in front. The sleeves were of sheerest Brussels net with tiny lacy cuffs over the wrists, in this instance the bride carried a prayer bool; bound in deep ruby re;d velvet. - OLD-TIME SUGGESTIONS. Ballrooms will be filled this season with women dressed, in the modern interpretation of the gqwn of their I mother’s, and grandmother’s days, but in a range of colours, both vivid and pale that will provide the new note for, which we are; always searching. There hvill be scarlet reds, Chinese and lavender blues, orange and primrose yellows, chartreuse and appß; greens, smoked, ivory and. parchment v/liites, with a good spr, inkling; of black as, a background to the riot of I colour. It Is well to remember that .when in doubt as to colour y«u are always safe in deciding upep black. BARBARIC JEWELLERY. Fashion dictates ar,e wondering what hak influenced the taste of the jewellers in regard to the latest designs for bracelets, necklaces apd, ornament that are now engaging our attention. They are certainly as barbaric as. they are bizarre, and silver and lapsis lazulis neck chains and pendants, bracelets of ivory and. black onyx, cut into designs that look like large teeth or small bonep. Simoked scarle;t pebbles, silver-mounted, also form bracelets, as de .Chinese; lacquer blue pebbles, sliver-mounted. A NEW COLOUR. . There is a new colour which as expected to be a great success. It is called! fudge, and it is just the s,ame honey gold-brown tint Of the sweets of. that name. It is best in tn He allied with gold lame or brocade, and 13 a very becoming colour. Parisdennes arc “making up” for it. FEATHERWEIGHT, HATS. Why do they call women slaves of fashion ? I, , c Fasnioii is now a slave to women. We. knphv our own. minds, and will i not be put. off with just anything. The new hats which ‘have been designed for our w'ear this winter con-, firm this opinion. We had! become tired of the very plain, undecorated shape;-,. Yet we feel we simply could ncit be bothered . with floppy brims or much trimming .fiiiic.h lifted, in the «inil and made life a . torment. MilIneis grasp this anti so our winter, lineis are nicer than e;ver. Trimmings are .subtle. You will ! find deft little insertions of’ petersham ribbon worked into; clewer, un-obstr-usiye designs. There nre tiny tucks, so small that they look like mere pipings on some of thq icnowhs. l Some; pf the newest shapes <are like tammies that have been to thsc decorators and! have left their plainness down at the, seaside.
