MEETING GF COUNCIL.
ROUTINE BUSINESS.
The Hauraki Plains County Council held its monthly meeting at Ngatea yesterday, Cr. E. L. Walton presiding over Crs. A. S. Fisher, J. A- W l , C. W. Harris, J, C Miller, W. Madgwick, C. W. Parfitt, and F. J. Mayn. The clerk (Mr E. A. Mahoney), the engineer (Mr F. Basham), and the inspector (Mr W. White) were in attendance.
MINISTERIAL VISIT.
Mr A. W. Hall, M.P., wrote advising that th e Minister cf Agriculture and Lands would 1«3 through the Hauaiki eleptoiate in the first or second week in May. The definite date and time would be advised as sotm as possible.
The clerk was deputed to make the necessary arrangements.
APPRECIATION.
The Turua Town Board forwarded thq following resolutions passed at tile last meeting:—
“That the Turua Town Board place on record its appreciation and thanks to the members of the Hauraki Plains County Council for the manner in which it has assisted this board daring th® past three years in co-operating with the board in all matters affecting the Town Board area and the surrounding district, and also desires to express thanks to the chairman, Mr E. L. Walton, Mr WMadg.wick, Turtle riding member. Mr F. Basham, county engineer, and Mr E, A. Mahoney, county clerk, fortheir courtesy and attention at all times to the board’s requests na.l wishes, and for their able assistance to the board during the above period. “Taat the Turua Town Board place on record its regret at the retirement of. Mr E. L. Walton, chairman of the Hauraki County Council, and Mr J. C. Miller, mWaber of the council, after so many years of good and faithful service to the council, and also desires to express special appreciation of thege gentlemen’s help, guidance, and' asistanc.e to this board at all times (luring their terms of office.” Cr. Walton said that it was nice to receive such a letter, Cr. Parfitt said that it was apparent that good feeling, existed between thq two bodies. The clerk was instructed to reply suitably. BILLIARD ROOM LICENSES. Messrs. Kleiman, Ngatea, M. Gordon, Kerepeehi, and S. W. Mercer, Turua, were granted licenses to conduct billiard rooms. SUPPLIES OF SHINGLE. The Wharqkawa Shingle Co., Ltd., Auckland, wrote offering; to supply the council with metal. Mr, H. A. Julian had severed all connection with thej company. SUBDIVISION OF LAND. The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. P. A. de la Perrolle, forwarded ' a circular advising that Mr Mawson, the new Director Of Town Planning, had givem a great deal of attention to the matter of subdivisions for building in counties, and had drawn up a statement for the guidance and assistance Of those concerned in considering such subdivision. One of the principal objects in view was to endeavour to prevent initial mistakes in subdivisions in order, if to prevent future financial liability being incurred. HIKUTAIA QUARRY. <Mr H. A. Julian, Waimaha, wrote ffering ..600 for the council’s quarry site and plant at Hikutaia.—lt was agreed to accept. REQUEST FOR INFORMATION. Cr. Harris asked that the council obtain from the Lands Drainage DepiurniMit fur the Watiakaruru Ratepayers’ Association the total amount of drainage rates struck south and west of the Maukora canal. The Ratepayers’ Association desired the information for a mattejr on which it proposed approaching the Minister of Lands. It was decided to do as desired. STREAM ROAD DRAIN. Cr. Harris urged the deepening or the drain on the south side of the Stream Road drain, Waitakaruru. The chairman pointed out that the council’s policy was to treat drains according to the extent the roadl would benefit. Cr. Harris said that the spoil could be used to improve the road. The engineer was inscurcted to import, MIRANDA ROAD. Cr. Harris drew attention to the necessity for repairs to a bridge on the Miranda Road. The engineer was instructed to deal with the matter as. soon as possibly TURUA TOWN RATES. On Cr. Madwick’s representation it was agreed to renew the agreement with the Turua Town Board regarding the rates collected by the county in the Town Board’s district. THE KAIHERE GLUE-POT. Thq state of. the Kaihera-Morrins-ville Road at the Ngatea-Patetonga riding boundary, known locally as the Glue-pot, was mentioned by Cr. Mayn, and on Cr. Walton’s motion the engineer was instructed to spend up to £lO on gravel. MANGAWHERO ROAD. CT. Mayn said that for years the Mangawhero Road settlers had been unable to get the Lands Drainage Department to clean the roadside drain, and a deputation of Mr A. J McDonald and himself hadi waited upon the Chief. Drainage Engineer, and had reached an agreement under which the department would, remove the shingle from the drain, and make it available to the council for use on the road on condition that the County Council bore half the cost up to Pci per cubic yard. This arrangement was confirmed, and thq engineer was instructed to interview the Lands Drainage Engineer, Kerepeehi, relative to having the work done as quickly as possible,
