PAEROA FIRE BRIGADE.
MONTHLY MEETING. At a meeting, of the Paeroa Volunteer Fire; Brigade held in the station on Tuesday night Superintendent WJ. Moore read his report aa delegate of the Paere>a unit to the United Fire Brigades’ Association’s Conference at Hokitika in February. The resolutions affecting New Zealand as a whole and put to the con-, ference, whether carried ’or lost, were carefully explained by the; superintendent. FIRE PREVENTION IN SCHOOLS. Secretary C. W. Malcolm’s paper bin file prevention lessons in schools was bi ought up as an item of special importance, and in the unavoidable, absence of Mr Malcolm was read by Superintendent Gilbert, of the Oneliunga brigade, with enthusiasm. Inspector Hugo, Government Inspector of Fire Brigades in the Dominion, listened with great interest, and was one of the first to congratulate the absent, secretary on his paper. It was unanimously decided by the executive that the paper be printed and ciicularisedi to the Education authorities. The Conference took marked exception to the fact that the Education authority did not keep its promise to include the. secretary’s fire prevention lessons in the, new syllabus for schools, and decided to further wait upon the Minister in question and continue its efforts towards further developments. FIRE LOSS REDUCTION. Inspector Hugo spoke very highly of the oiutstandinir, work of the United Fire Brigades’ Association in regard to fire loss, reduction in the Dominion through the means of efficient organisation and by the education of the rising generation. STATE SCHOOL ESSAYS. It was announced at the Conference that a silver competition c,up had been presented for the purpose of competitive essays in State schools on fire, prevention. THE DEMONSTRATION. Superintendent MoPre expressed the opinion that the demonstration competitions were perhaps the best he had attended during, the time he had been associated with the fire brigades of the Dominion. The water pressure was splendid! and well maintained, the general opinion bejng that the gear was the best to date. Times generally were better than the average. Had Paeroa entered a team, Mr Moore said iie was confident that, with a reasonable amount of practice, they would have had good results. However, regret was expressed by various representatives at Hokitika that the Paeroa team had. been compelled to canc.el its place on the lists, tlebarilng it from participating in such a splendid Conference demonstration, by the fact that the Paeroa brigaldte had been deprived of its training facilities. DOMAIN TRAINING GROUND. In conclusion Superintendent Moore said it was to be hoped that in the near future the Borough Council would see its way clear to put a main into the domain, so that Paeroa cpiuld practice in an efficient planner, a s other brigades could, far any other demonstrations, and, with a view to the f uture, when, no matter who was in office in the brigade, paeroa might profit from being the centre for a fire demonstration.
