FLAX MILLING AT PAEROA
NEW INDUSTRY TO COMMENCE.
EXTENSIVE FIELD OF ACTIVITIES
What promises to be a big fillip to Paeroa’s population and commence is; now in process of establishment at Awaiti, a.bout five and a-half niil&s frem the town. Flax milling is to be commenced there on an extensive basis by the Hauraki Plains Flax Growers and Hemp Producers, Ltd-, who- will undertake the whole process of t.wine and rope manufacture, from the cultivation of the flax right down to the finished article. It is est-imatqd that from seven- to right hundred men and wplmen will be ultimately employed by the ti-m, people who will naturally use Paeroa as their centre for business, shopping, and entertainment. What this influx will mean to the; town is quite apparent on a, moment’s thought. A project that will mean so much to Pacroa is worthy of every s,upp6rt, support that, if given, will immediately reflect on the givers themselves in the way of increased pejrsonal business ; apart even from national gains of such an establishment, which will help materially and in a lasting manner to telleve somewhat the unemployment. problem.'
The Hauraki Plains Flax Growqrs and Ile-mp Producers, Ltd., propose giving one evening next week a free series of lectures around a. cinema film depicting, as well as the whole method of. flax cultivation and cordage manufacture, viqws of various points of interest in and around Pcaroa a,nd neighbouring towns. Of especial interest to farmers should be the part illustrating the preparation of butter and cheese from the initial milking to the marketable article.
This film, <;f. which the Paeroa and Waihi Borough Councils lia,ve taken upwards of 70 feet each, will be pub-, licly, shown for the first time in Paeroa, after which it will be exhibited throughout the North Island on a tour to be undertaken by the management. This will indirectly serve as good propaganda for Pa.eroa and the Paeroa-Pokeno railway, prominently placing Paeroa on the map. The trials of the pictures have already proved that thqy are quite up tci the best. American films, and can be held stationary while the lecturer points out particular matters of. interest. -
