A councilltt, at .the Ohinemuri County Council meeting yesterday brought up the question of alleged child slavery following the, absence of two children front the last school picnic, claiming that it was not, in »ny r sense of the word, and that the flection cast a slur -pin a family in his riding. Although the matter was not strictly an affair of the cuincil’s, he brought it up in hopes that some retribution would be made the family concerned, as the child welfaie officer had investigated the c'hafgp and come to the conclusion that, it was unfounded. The councillor was, apparently unaware that the Press had already given due prominence to the report of the welfare offic.er, who, as a result of his investigations, satisfied the School Committee that their apprehensions as to the true facts o-f the case were incorrect.
